Butter | 1 cup | Softened |
Sugar | 1 cup | |

Salt | 1/4 tsp | |
White Raisins | 1/2 cup | |
Maraschino Cherries | 12 | Cut Up |
Cherry Juice | 1 Tbsp | |
Vanilla | 1 tsp |
Method
- Soften butter
- Preheat oven to 250F
- Cut up cherries
- Grease and flour small tube pan
- Cream together butter and sugar
- Beat in eggs
- Add flour, baking powder and salt. Mix to combine
- Add White Raisins, Cherries, Cherry Juice, and Vanilla

- Bake about 1 1/4 hours or until “done with tester”
Notes
- This is served at high tea in England - a very highly prixed receipe shared only in the family
Modern Notes
- By “done with tester”, I assume she meant until a toothpick or possibly a knife inserted into the cake comes out clean – David S
- It’s unclear to me whether she meant to use the syrup Maraschino Cherries are sold in, the liquer Maraschino cherries would have been sold in at the time of the purported original of this recipe, or actual cherry juice. I made it with actual Cherry juice for the image on this recipe. – David S
