Ingredients

Sharp Cheddar Cheese 1/2 lb Grated
Green Pepper 1 large Chopped
Onion 1 Medium Minced
Bacon 10 slices Crisp - Crumbled
Mayonnaise 3 Tbsp  
Rye Bread   Recipe calls for “party rye bread” - see Modern note below

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 475F
  2. Cook to crisp, cool, and crumble bacon if not using pre-made
  3. Combine all ingredients except bread and mix
  4. Spread on bread
  5. Bake until bubbles form

Modern Notes

  • “Party Rye Bread” appears to be a discontinued Pepperidge Farms product. Articles about it being discontinued suggest cutting standard-sized Rye bread into quarters, or products by different brands referred to as cocktail rye bread. Party Rye Bread appears to have been 2 inches by 2 inches and fairly thin.
